Our manager field doesn't sync so we don't have that filled in. We have too many end users with too many managers, that are always in flux, to fill that out manually.
We utilize our approval boards for requests that will need approval and set the related service catalog form to automatically request approval from the related board. For instance, we have two forms related to DBA changes. One form is for changes to non-Financial based systems and the other is Financial based like our payroll and tax systems. Financial based system changes have always required approval before completing so now we use BOSS to automatically request approval from a financial dba request board consisting of our CFO, CIO, CTO, and HR Director. The non-Financial change form creates a ticket with no approvals requested.
Anything else that would require approval, we just try to follow our in-house best practices to manually request approval from the appropriate people. I created approval boards for various requests and most people in our department with authority related to those requests have a spot on a board so approval can be sent to them manually.
